Design and Evaluation of an Atomizer

The objective of the project was to design, fabricate, and evaluate an atomizer for obtaining sub 10-micron mean drop size sprays.  The atomizer has low injection pressures (250 PSI), high liquid loading (25 to 100 gm/s) and low Air-to-Liquid Ratios (ALR) below 10 %.  The injector was designed and constructed by En’Urga Inc.  Drop sizes were measured using Phase Doppler Anemometry.  En’Urga Inc. was successful in achieving the objectives of Allison Engines Company.
