PODScan Planar Dropsizer

Home / Products / The PODScan (Planar Optical Dropsizer)

The PODscan planar drop sizers measure the scattering and extinction caused by the spray from six view angles with two linear arrays. These measurements are deconvoluted using proprietary software to provide full planar drop sizes and surface area densities. The spray measurements are obtained a frequency of 1,000 Hz enabling the characterization of fuel injectors and consumer nozzles. U.S. Patent 10,712,251

Six axis system for sprays from 2 inches to 10 inches in diameter
Single axis system for sprays from 2 inches to 10 inches in diameter

  • Measures spatially resolved planar Sauter Mean Diameter in sprays
  • Simultaneously provides planar drop surface areas
  • Optional add-on to the highly successful optical patternators
  • Characterized liquid sprays with obscuration as high as 95%
  • Different sizes for sprays from 25 mm to 250 mm

Quality audit of:

  • Fuel delivery nozzles for aero-engines
  • Automotive urea dosers
  • Paint nozzles and applicators
  • Agricultural nozzles used in various applications
  • Nebulizers, metered dose inhalers, and nasal sprays
  • Consumer aerosol dispensers for fragrances, cleaners, and insecticides
  • Industrial nozzles used in spray drying, washing, and scrubbing
  • Also used in windowed pressure chambers to obtain full patternation (spray pattern) information by rotating the nozzle a few times.
